Yesterday we gave away our second SSD of the contest. The winner? Bob-o. Congrats! Respond to my email with your shipping info and we'll get your prize out right away.
I started out reviewing motherboards. Back in 1997 there were dozens of motherboard manufacturers and they were all very eager to have their products reviewed. In some senses the industry was a lot cleaner back then. The focus of motherboard PR hadn't yet shifted to winning awards above all else. Before I handed off motherboard reviews to Mike Andrawes, our first Senior Editor, I reviewed 209 motherboards for AnandTech.
Today's prize is made by a company that wasn't even around back then. ASRock. Originally an ASUS subsidiary, ASRock is now completely independent. The company was kind enough to ship us its H55M Pro. You can find full specs of the LGA-1156 motherboard here on ASRock's site.

Happy 4th to our US readers. And a very special 4th to the winner of our last contest: mmmmmdonuts21. Respond to my email with your shipping info and we'll get your prize out right away.
Given the subject matter of the review I'm writing today, our next giveaway is fitting. OCZ grew its loyal userbase with memory but in the past couple of years has become known for its SSDs. Thus it shouldn't be surprising to anyone that OCZ sent over a 60GB Vertex SSD for today's giveaway.

The Vertex is based on Indilinx's Barefoot controller. You can get an idea for how the Barefoot performs using our SSD Bench database.

Thirteen years ago I wrote my first articles on a Geocities hosted website called Anand's Hardware Tech Page. In celebration of our 13th year of operation a number of our gracious sponsors have provided us with hardware to give away to you. This site has and always will be yours, and as a way of showing our appreciation for for reading our content, helping us stay on track and helping spread the word when you like what you see we're going to do a giveaway every day for the next 28 days.
G.Skill was the first sponsor to send in product and they sent in a ton. G.Skill alone sent in a total of 58GB of memory for everything from desktops to notebooks and we're giving it all away over the next month (see above for a pic of what 58GB of memory looks like).
Today's prize is a 4GB (2 x 2GB) G.Skill Ripjaws kit (F3-10666CL8D-4GBRM). The memory is rated for DDR3-1333 with 8-8-8-24 timings at 1.5V. This should work in Intel LGA-1156 and AMD Socket-AM3 motherboards.

If you aren't in the market for new memory, today's prize may be a bit more tempting. Patriot sent over a box of goodies including this:

The Patriot Zephyr SSD is based on JMicron's JMF612 controller, the same controller used by Kingston in its V-series drives and by Western Digital in the SiliconEdge Blue. A solid performer, the Zephyr would be a great introduction to the SSD world for any user. We're giving away a 64GB drive.
